After months of preparation (mainly done by Chris Rigby), several weeks of planning, and coordination with many people, we finally put together our first Balance Community hosted slackline festival. Rightly named The Balance Community Backyard Highline Festival, it was an event to be remembered.

We had 45 attendees who were all doing really well on all the lines we had setup. It was really great because we had such a variety of lines to choose from, pretty much everyone had a line that they were challenged on. I saw quite a few people get their first highline walk as well as many people who walked their longest highline at the festival. It was great to see people grow right in front of your eyes like that! Such a great experience.

Don't let the name of this festival fool you, these 'backyard' highlines are all very well exposed. The festival makes a wonderful place to train for highlines in places like Yosemite, or Joshua Tree. Our goal with the festival is to provide a training ground for slackliners of all shapes and sizes to come and push their skills to the next level. We want to offer this festival every full moon (depending on weather, of course), for this very reason. We hope to help the tighly knit community of slackliners in this area (and not in this area) by providing a place for them to slackline freely. Keep a lookout on our Facebook Page for updates when the next festival will be.

A big thanks to BC PRO-Team athlete, Chris Rigby, for all his hard work and dedication to making this event possible. He spent hours upon hours clearing the brush off his property in preparation for these festivals. Each time I visited his house, another acre would be brush free. Also, a huge thanks to Grant Thompson for taking amazing footage and putting together an incredible video of this festival, which can be seen below.

We also had a 300 ft. longline, a 2" tubular trickline, a rodeo line, and several small slacklines in various places around the festival. We have some footage of every single line being occupied, which was an incredible experience.
