I'm Emily Sukiennik and I discovered the sport of slacklining in January 2009. I immediately became addicted the art of perfecting my balance and couldn't stop daydreaming about walking my first highline. A few months later after successfully walking the Lost Arrow Spire Highline in Yosemite Valley I knew that I had found something really special. I love the way I feel on the line: challenged yet calm, focused, determined. For me slacklining is like a moving meditation; when I am on the line it tests my physical and mental strength in a way that I have never experienced before. Slacklining is the perfect metaphor for life: there are always going to difficulties along the way but we all have it in us to push past them and just keep walking. There is so much potential within the sport and I can't wait for all of the adventures and challenges to come!

What's your favorite slackline webbing?

Threaded Slack-Spec Tubular! I love how much spring there is in a threaded line. I use it for tricklining and longlining but I also like it for highlining when I want a bit more of a challenge :)

What's the longest line that you've walked?

413 feet on-sight in Moab, Utah

Do you have any projects that you are currently working on?

I am working on beating my personal records right now. I want to walk a 500 ft. longline and eventually progress to 700 ft. I'm also working on walking a 150 ft. highline. A lot of my focus lately is my own personal records but I'm also working on establishing new lines here in Colorado. There's something really special about spotting a line and rigging it for the first time. I'm also working with two other female athletes, Hayley Ashburn and Jill Kuzman, on combining the three sports of rock climbing, highlining and BASE jumping (www.VertiGirlSports.com)

Where do you see slacklining in 5 years?

I see it evolving a lot, perhaps into a more competitive sport or even just into a more widespread activity. There are so many aspects to slacklining: Tricklining, Longlining, Highlining, Waterlining....I see a lot of festivals emerging in the near future. Over the past few years alone so many talented slackliners have emerged into the community; it's amazing how fast the sport is growing!
